Natural cosmetic- what does that mean?

It is not easy to find one definition for natural cosmetic***. It exists certain rules and regulations what to apply to be able to call product as natural.

European Union still didn't prepare one definition for it. Other sources of definition we can find in documents published by official or private institutions. Council of Europe has created the guidelines of conditions of use natural claims*. Professional associations as Cosmetic Organic and Natural (Cosmos )**** or International Natural and Organic Cosmetics Association (NaTrue) Standard, they created the certifications showing the common standards.

`Description`of  natural cosmetic

Council of Europe Guidelines
'Natural cosmetic' is a product consisting of natural substances of botanical, mineral or animal origin, exclusively obtained through physical, microbiological or enzymatic methods, with certain exceptions for fragrances and preservatives**.

NaTrue standard 
`Natural cosmetics' are products exclusively manufactured from natural substances. 'Natural substances' are substances of botanic or inorganic mineral or animal origin (except dead vertebrates), and substances that are made up of a mixture of other substances and reactions. These substances must be obtained or processed following authorised manufacturing processes.

Under certain conditions, natural cosmetics can contain "natural-identical substances" , "nature-identical inorganic pigments and minerals"  and "nearly natural substances" (ie, substances which are not natural, but are manufactured using processes which are modelled on physiological mechanisms)***.

In general, in `natural cosmetics` not only the ingredients are important but also product development should be environmentally friendly.

Certificates (private organisations )

Private organisations as Certified Natural Cosmetics (BDIH ), Professional Association for Ecological and Organic Cosmetics (Cosmebio ) or Soil Association prepared the standards for `natural cosmetics`. The standards are different, so at the end the producers of ` natural cosmetics` can apply for the certificate they feel will be the most suitable for them.

It sounds complicated? Yes, it is. In next posts I will try to present private organisations and theirs certificate standards.
In general I have one advice- be a smart consumer and  learn about the certification standards. Buy product which is valuable for you.

Follow Weekend VI

Botanical Garden in Geneva (Switzerland ) its a perfect idea for a Sunday afternoon walk. The Botanical Garden is a living museum of the city. Believe me -  it is my top place to see in Geneva.

It is my favourite place to relax and discover many plants and animals. It is unbelievable how many flowers, greens, and shrubs are in this garden. Peace, love and Geneva :)

Pick a mango

Mango- the king of the fruits. It is full of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.
Mangoes- are the best fruits which you can offer to your skin and body.

Sweet and delicious fruit it can be eaten on its one. Just like a healthy snack without any additional ingredients. You can also make a delicious smoothies. My recipe for the healthy mango smoothie:


1 chopped ripe mango
1/2 cup plain yogurt
1 tablespoon honey (or sugar )


Place the mango, yogurt, honey in a blender.
Blend until smooth.

PS: Mango smoothie it is a perfect breakfast option.

Pick The Health- homemade strawberry jam

Your breakfast with  homemade jam  is like a fairytale. In general I am not a big specialist, but I like to do simple jams for my own use.  I prefer to make jam at home, instead of buying one (for me it is to many preservatives). Check my recipe for the homemade strawberry jam:

You can now enjoying your own homemade jam. I didn't use any pectin.  But do not worry it is really tasty. I will follow my motto- less is more. Less ingredients-  it is just healthier. Jam will keep for around a week.
Eat your jam with the natural yogurt, bread, croissants etc.

Easter walks

Easter is a good time to slow down and eat a lot, sleep a lot and have a great time with the family. It seams like a fairytale. In general it is good to relax. But in this easy peasy atmosphere do not forget about your health. Of course there is so many goodies available ( cakes, Easter eggs, chocolate bunnies) which you have to try but at the end it is good to move a little bit.  Just a short  walk can help you to feel fit again. Take your children, friends, parents and have a walk. Maybe the weather in Geneva is not the best  - especially this cold unpleasant wind, but really it is worth to spend few minutes outside and enjoy the Spring colours and peaceful atmosphere.
